GLIA Gift Catalogue
Since 1992 Peter and Lesley Butcher have been working in Dorohoi, Romania. Dorohoi, situated in the north-east corner of Romania is a town principally composed of crumbling houses and tenement blocks built during communist times. The town has a population of approximately 40,000 of which well 
over 75% are unemployed. Many families have had their gas and electric cut off as they have little or no income and have built up large outstanding debts for these utilities and for water. Medicine and hospital treatment all have to be paid for and this leads to additional debts or necessary treatment not being given.
We provide between 180 200 three course meals a week; for many people it is the only time they eat at tables and we endeavour to give them dignity and respect which cannot be given at the town Soup Kitchen where they have to queue for a bucket of soup. Ana is a lovely Romanian lady who cooks the meals and she is helped by Ami who also helps with the cleaning of the Centre. People can also come for hot showers, soap and towels provided, as many dont have water in their homes.

Family Meals£10 pays for approx 7 three course meals provided four days a week by the Centre of Hope to the needy of Dorohoi. A regular monthly donation would provide 84 meals in a year. Order No: 001 |

Gas Bottles£10 will help to provide two gas bottle refills for two families to use for cooking and heating for one month. Order No: 002 |

School Pack£20 pays for a school pack with pens, paper and books that are needed by the children at the start of the term. Order No: 003 |

Medicine£25 would assist towards helping the poor with the cost of vital medication when it is needed, i.e. prescribed antibiotics; or on a regular basis, i.e. heart, diabetic or similar conditions; or for hospital treatment, all of which has to be paid for. Order No: 004 |

Family food bags£10 would help fill the 250 food bags we currently give out monthly to the poor and needy of the town. These include basic items such as sugar, cooking oil, pasta, r ice etc. Also included are hand-washing detergent and face soap. Families receive different sizes bag according to the size of the family. Order No: 005 |

Playground£3 pays for the evening supervision of the playground during the summer at the Centre of Hope for one day. £8 pays for Saturday supervision during the summer. Order No: 006e (evening); 006s (Saturday) |

Sports Equipment£7.50 helps buy sports equipment for the children to use at the Centre of Hope such as rackets, shuttlecocks, footballs, table tennis bats and balls etc. Order No: 007 |

Play Equipment£20 would help buy scooters, trikes, bikes etc. for children to use at the Centre of Hope. Order No: 008 |

Soap and Shampoo£5 helps towards the cost of soap, shower gel and shampoo for use in the public showers at the Centre of Hope. Order No: 009 |

Family SupportA minimum monthly gift of £25 would help a family with regular monthly bills such as rent, electric and gas thus giving them peace of mind that they will have a roof over their heads. Order No: 011 |
