Building Project
At the beginning of 2006 we were given a vision to build another building alongside the existing Centre, as the requests for meals were (and still are) increasing because the situation in Dorohoi is not improving. The new building (The Annexe) will enable us to seat more people for the meals, with a kitchen that will fully meet the Romanian/EU requirements (we are now an accredited Romanian Charity which means that our kitchen and premises are subject to similar inspections as those carried out in the UK).
As well as enabling us to increase the number of meals we provide, the "Annexe" will also enable us to accommodate more children at the Saturday Childrens Club, and more at the Wednesday night meeting we hold. The additional space, and space freed up in the existing Centre will enable us to increase the activities at the Centre by providing a homework club, parent and toddler group, self help groups, an old persons group just to mention a few, and also possibly a "night soup kitchen" for the homeless. New visitor accommodation will be on the first floor.
The existing top floor of the Centre has now been converted into an apartment in order that we can have our own space. The office, has now moved down to the room which has been our only private room for the last 5 years. This is making life a lot easier as we do not have to keep running up and down 2 flights of stairs from the public office on the ground floor every time we need a document etc.
The Annexe is a concrete structure, which is typical of new builds in this area, with the walls made up of Therma blocks 25cm thick, and outside walls covered in polystyrene and then plastered. This will make it even warmer in the winter than the existing Centre.

As can be seen from the pictures, the "Annexe" looks very good we are excited that we are getting nearer to completion although later than our original anticipated completion date. The floors have been tiled and laminated the doors hung, and the Bathrooms fitted.

The "Annexe" has now been connected to the gas the documentation and authorisations were started at the beginning of the year and it has been a very slow process taking nearly a year! Now that the Central Heating is on we are able to use the building for the Saturday morning Children's Club (Clubul GLIA) and the Wednesday evening Worship meeting.
So far the cost of the building work has been £80,500 and this has only been possible because of your amazing response to our appeals . Work on equipping the main kitchen will start in the next few weeks, and once complete we can then apply for the necessary authorisations and certifications to use the new building for the meals. after this is complete there will still be some work to be done to complete the Annexe, such as fitting the firstfloor with a kitchenette, and fitting out the bedrooms for visitors. (When there are no visitors or anyone staying we will be using the space for other activities) The building also needs the external stairs, disabled ramp, and drive finishing. Below are the estimates for the remaining work.

As you can see from the above we have just a little way to go before we can bring the building to full life and fulfil the purpose for which it is intended - reaching out to even more of the poor and disadvantaged of Dorohoi, by showing them - Gods Love In Action.
